Call to Action #10

Create Youth, Women, Elder, and LGBTQ2S+ permanent forums.

Inactive Status

No permanent forums exist whose dedicated purpose is to bring Youth, Women, Elder, and LGBTQ2S+ perspectives to bear on Indigenous economic development. Standing advisory councils and advocacy bodies do exist within the broader Indigenous organizational landscape, including the Assembly of First Nations’ (AFN) five national councils (Knowledge Keepers, Youth, Women’s, Veterans, and 2SLGBTQQIA+), the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC), Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak (LFMO), and the National Association of Friendship Centres’ Aboriginal Youth Council.4 These bodies provide structured voice for the demographic groups the Call identifies, but their mandates are broad, covering health, justice, culture, and political advocacy alongside economic issues. None operates as a dedicated, standing forum focused specifically on Indigenous economic development strategy and policy.
