About

In response, a historic coalition of national Indigenous organizations developed the National Indigenous Economic Strategy (NIES), guided by the principle of “Nothing about us, without us.” Launched in June 2022, the Strategy outlines 107 Calls to Economic Prosperity across four Strategic Pathways. Recognizing that closing the socio-economic gap is an act of Nation-building, the NIES provides a roadmap to advancing Indigenous economic sovereignty, creating sustainable, multi-generational prosperity, and strengthening Canada’s economy as a whole.
NIEPI advances Indigenous economic development through Indigenous-led, collaborative, and ethical research that bridges academic knowledge with community perspectives. By measuring progress on the National Indigenous Economic Strategy’s 107 Calls to Economic Prosperity, preserving research legacy materials, and working with governments, industry, communities, and institutions, NIEPI promotes transparency, accountability, and collective action.
NIEPI is led by a multidisciplinary team of Indigenous researchers, analysts, and communications professionals dedicated to advancing Indigenous economic prosperity. Through expertise in research, policy, communications, and community engagement, the team produces accessible, impactful work that supports the goals of the National Indigenous Economic Strategy.
NIEPI works in partnership with Indigenous Nations, academic institutions, and community organizations to advance Indigenous economic development by fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and expanding the impact of research.
