Active Status

The status is Active. Responsive implementation exists in Canada because federal contaminated-site projects have used Indigenous procurement mechanisms and awarded remediation-related work to Indigenous businesses, especially in northern major projects. The strongest evidence comes from the Giant Mine Remediation Project, where Indigenous procurement is reported through project annual reporting and public procurement updates, and from the Faro Mine Remediation Project, where Indigenous Opportunities Considerations and Kaska Dena procurement are built into project delivery. Federal contaminated-sites programming also supports opportunities for Indigenous workers and businesses in cleanup-related service delivery. The evidence does not show a single Canada-wide Call #54 implementation framework, but the Call is active because procurement of Indigenous companies for contaminated-site cleanup is being implemented in current project contexts.
