The status is Active. Responsive activity exists through federal broadband funding, CRTC regulatory funding, Indigenous-led telecommunications advocacy, and project-level collaborations with major providers. ISED’s Connectivity Strategy and Universal Broadband Fund rely on collaboration among governments, Indigenous communities, private-sector partners, and Internet service providers to close rural, remote, and Indigenous connectivity gaps. The CRTC Broadband Fund supports projects to improve Internet and cellphone services in underserved rural, remote, and Indigenous communities and is developing an Indigenous stream. National Indigenous Connectivity Inc. and Bell Canada announced a 2025 Reconciliation Agreement to advance broadband and wireless access for rural and remote First Nations communities. Regional project evidence also exists through Canada-B.C. connectivity funding involving TELUS and CityWest. The evidence shows active collaboration, though access deficiencies remain and many projects are selected, planned, or under development rather than fully complete.
